POETIC IS GROWING…….

Knit into the heart of downtown Dallas, POETIC exists to end the cycle of re-victimization and provide in-community aftercare for girls who have experienced child maltreatment, commercial sexual exploitation and sex trafficking. Through 24/7 access to trauma therapy, creative arts therapy, an on-site school and a newly launched social enterprise, POETIC equips girls to find their voices, reclaim their narratives and persist forward.

Through the generous support of The Beck Group (https://www.beckgroup.com/), POETIC is receiving a pro bono renovation of their current Student Center and Classroom valued over $250,000.

The renovations will include a modern kitchen and dining area where our girls will learn skills such as team building, meal planning, cooking and nutrition. These skills will equip POETIC girls to move toward self sufficiency, while providing three meals a day in a family environment to ensure no POETIC girl lacks access to nourishing food options.

POETIC’s Student Center will also include a state-of-the-art educational space with a flexible layout and design allowing configurations for Leadership Academy coursework, art therapy, yoga classes and more.

But We NEED YOUR HELP

Partners who adopt key areas will be memorialized on a plaque inside the newly renovated student center and recognized at an exclusive Open House Celebration in the Fall of this year.

POETIC Kitchen: The heart of community, in the POETIC kitchen, girls and team members prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner daily as a way of building relationships, learning life skills and providing critical meals for girls, many of whom are food insecure.

  • Residential Dishwasher
  • 54” Wide Double Door Commercial Refrigerator
  • Garbage disposal unit to go under the sink
  • Kitchen utensils to aid in food preparation, cooking and baking

 Estimated value $10,000.

POETIC Technology: To equip girls with high school diplomas, POETIC delivers an on-site homeschool program with (2) full-time teachers. Twenty POETIC girls will be enrolled in POETIC’s on-site school in Fall 2019. To make learning accessible and engaging, POETIC is seeking the following technology for the new Student Center:

  • A cluster of 5-6 iMacs for POETIC students engaged in daily coursework (computers and desk furniture needed)
  • For POETIC’s teacher, a smartboard and/or large screen with projection capability for lesson delivery

 Estimated value $12,500.

POETIC Clothing Closet: To overcome the lack of access to basic necessities like clothing, POETIC has an on-site clothing closet where girls can choose outfits and, with dignity, shop for items like underwear, socks and shoes.

  • Closet organization system (racks, drawers, shelves) for the POETIC Clothing Closet to organize donated clothing, shoes and accessories. The dimensions of the clothing closet are 11’-4” x 5’-8 ½”.
  • Closet organization accessories such as hangers and containers
  • Side-by-Side Washer and Dryer, allowing girls to launder clothing throughout the week. Washer and Dryer need to fit side-by-side in a 4’7” space.  Both must be handicapped accessible:  controls are on the very front and not on a back panel of the appliances.

 Estimated value $8,000.

POETIC Bathroom: A new, serene individual bathroom including a shower area is being built for POETIC girls, so they can comfortably access hygiene.

  • Shelving in the restroom for towels, toiletries and personal care items. ADA does not allow cabinets to be installed above the toilet, so open shelving is required.

 Estimated value $5,500.
